The Ogbomoso-Oyo-Kwara Express Road Demands Immediate Fix to Address Prolonged Travel Delays that Pose a Deadly Threat to Commuters

~By Oluwaseun Fabiyi

Nigerians are demanding President Tinubu to reorient his priorities, expressing frustration over his overseas travels and perceived lack of progress on key issues, with his tenure nearing two years without notable successes

Days-long traffic strandings on the Oyo-Ogbomoso-Kwara road prompted frustrated travelers to record their disastrous bush experiences on phone cameras, as evidenced by a widely-circulated video

It is clear that the Nigerian government has neglected the welfare and security of its citizens, as evidenced by the poor condition of the federal express road connecting Oyo, Ogbomoso, and Kwara

What are the reasons for the extended construction timeline of this federal government express road, the only major and alternative route connecting Oyo State to Kwara?

In reality, this specific abandoned federal express road has degenerated into a hazardous route due to the numerous illicit activities perpetrated by tanker drivers

My thoughts reverted to my early 2024 road journey to Kwara, where an unforeseen three-hour delay occurred, ultimately prolonging the six-hour trip to nine hours, rendering the entire experience undeniably dismal

The Old Oyo road has been an abandoned project and has become a designated dumping ground for trailers, which often remain stationary for weeks on end.
What activities are taking place there? Apparently, nothing productive, merely idle pursuits such as loitering, playing, eating, and engaging in detrimental behavior

Undoubtedly, the Oyo-Ogbomoso old and new roads have deteriorated to perilous conditions, requiring urgent government attention to protect citizens’ lives and ensure road safety.
