FOOD SECURITY: TIME TO ACT IS NOW - ALARHOSPS PRESIDENT




With the food and nutrition insecurity reaching alarming proportions worldwide, there is no better time to discuss this invaluable subject than now. This is with a view to proffering local and creative solutions that can be implemented both in the short and long terms. 

Globally, there are crises, disasters, both man - made and natural, that have threatened the availability and sustainability of food supply. 

 Otunba Nurudeen Ojora- Adejiyan, President of Association of Lagos State Retired Heads of Service and Permanent Secretaries(ALARHOSPS), made this statement in a release signed by the Publicity Secretary, Sir Olusina Thorpe.  

According to the President, it is in view of the importance of the subject of food security that the Association has scheduled its annual summit, tagged " agenda for sustainable development and food security, to hold between Tuesday 13th  and, Wednesday 14th August, 2024 at Ikeja, Lagos State. 

In the statement, Otunba Ojora - Adejiyan described food security as a cornerstone of any stable and prosperous society, stressing that every individual and group should have access to sufficient, safe and nutritious foods to lead healthy lives. 

He stated further that Nigeria, despite her rich agricultural heritage and potentials, faces significant challenges. This , he noted, should be addressed through a comprehensive and collaborative approach, involving both state and non - state actors. 

This year's summit which is the eleventh edition will feature erudite scholars and food security experts from across the globe. They are expected to share their expertise and experience that would form the basis for a sustainable development agenda towards food security in the country.

The concept of the ALARHOSPS Summit, which started in Y2015, is to serve as a veritable platform through which relevant and useful contributions are made towards state and national development.
